Have you ever thought about turning your kitchen scraps and yard waste into something amazing for your garden?
Welcome to the wonderful world of composting! It’s easy, eco-friendly, and downright fun. Let us take you through how we compost at Knobby HQ, the tips we have learnt along the way, and how you can even compost your Knobby underwear. Let’s dig into it!
Why Compost?
First things first, why should you compost? Here are a few reasons:
1. Reduce Waste: Composting diverts organic waste from landfills, reducing the amount of trash we produce.
2. Nutrient-Rich Soil: Compost adds essential nutrients to the soil, promoting healthier plants and bigger harvests.
3. Save Money: No need to buy expensive fertilisers when you can make your own!
How we Compost.
We set up a small composting station in the kitchen - a small bin under the sink where the team can put their food scraps and coffee grinds.
We then created a quick cheat sheet on what the team can compost to avoid any bad smells and unwanted pests.
Each week we empty our scraps into our large composting pile at the back of HQ and aerate the mixture.
We use dried debris from around the garden and our Naturals underwear samples to keep our compost pile dry.
Our Tips and Tricks.
- Equip your composting station with the necessary tools - a small countertop compost bin with a charcoal filter can keep odours at bay.
- Compostable bags can make transporting scraps to the main bin easier.
- Implement a cleaning schedule to keep those pesky fruit flies away.
How to turn your Knobby Underwear into Garden Gold
Did you know that our Naturals range can also be put into the compost?
Our Naturals underwear is made from 88% TENCEL Modal and 12% Elastane, which means that the majority of the garment will break down in the composting process. While the Elastane in the garment will remain, it can be removed from your compost pile before you spread it through your garden.
Our mailing bags are also 100% biodegradable so throw these into your compost without the shipping label to boost your dry ingredients!
